Primary Care is the care given at your GP practice, or in your local healthcare centre. It is usually the first point of contact for patients. We want to support people to receive care closer to home instead of in hospitals (when appropriate), working to develop Primary Care will help us achieve this ambition.

Conversation: Long Term Conditions

Long Term Conditions
Our population has high rates of Asthma, Diabetes and Coronary Heart Disease which are all examples of long-term conditions. Long term conditions can affect many parts of a person’s life, from their ability to work and have relationships to housing and education opportunities. It is important that people who live with a long-term condition have the confidence, support and information to take control. This is called self care, which means looking after yourself in a healthy way, whether it’s taking your medicine properly or doing some exercise.

Conversation: Children & Families

In June 2012, the effectiveness of Birmingham City Council’s arrangements for protecting children and all the agencies working with them including health was judged as ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted. Improvements have been made since then, but this still remains a huge challenge for the city. BSC hosts the Children’s Safeguarding Team for all of the Birmingham CCGs and work closely with the Birmingham Safeguarding Children’s Board to improve safeguarding in the city.
